The walk leads through Rolands Castle village to the entrance of Stansted Forest, through the forest to Forest Hanger, then alongside Stanstead House and North Cooper Wood. The return to Rolands Castle is then along the Monarch's Way. There are a couple of inclines, but no steep climbs. There are no stiles and most paths are gravel tracks with no mud.
