THE £1MILLION ITCHEN RIVERSIDE WALK

From the car park we soon enjoy a pleasant walk alongside the Itchen river. We then cross the road bridge and as far as possible hug the river on the opposite bank before arriving at the Itchen Riverside Boardwalk, opened in 2010 at a cost of £1million. We then loop back via Northam bridge on route to the 15 hectare Chessel Bay Local Nature Reserve, the only remaining long stretch of undeveloped natural shoreline on the lower Itchen. After a short break at the reserve we then head back past Bitterne station, the iconic Bitterne clock tower and the miniature railway.
